The discipline covers three second-level disciplines at present, including Signal and Information Processing, Communication and Information System, and Information Security, master degree programs of three second-level disciplines were approved in 1988, 2000, and 2011 respectively, where master degree programs of Information Security was set independently and becam first-level discipline in 2005, was even authorized doctoral degree program in 2015(independent set).

1. DISCIPLINARY ORIENTATION AND GOAL

(1) Disciplinary Orientation: Adapt to the needs of major strategy of the national communication fields and the development of information industry of Zhejiang province; Server for the development of the national defense technologies and the weapon equipments; Make breakthroughs in the theories of communication, in the application of data storage and transmission security, and in the industrialization of communications technology application; Cultivate innovative talents and promote the ability to convert the results of theoretical research into productivity relaying on scientific research.

(2) Disciplinary Goal: through 10-15 years enhance the level of scientific research and strength, bear the national-level and the provincial-level grand research projects, set up national-level research platforms, build up the national-level innovative research teams, construct the discipline team with high research level and innovation ability, and has significant contribution to the development of local economy and national defense.

2. CHARACTERISTICS AND ADVANTAGES

(1) Faculties and Talent-cultivation System

With the rapid development of communication technology, based on the four majors as communication engineering, information engineering, information security, and information confrontation, constructed the trinity postgraduate education system with the signal and information processing, communication and information system, and information security. Communication engineering and information security were listed as the national featured specialty and the national excellent engineers training plan. In the past five years, students have published more than 810 papers, and won all kinds of national, provincial competitions, first and second prizes for more than 300. The proportion of graduates entering the famous enterprises is higher than 80% of the total.

(2) Abundant Scientific Research Achievement

In the past five years, the discipline has hosted nearly 60 national, provincial and ministerial projects and achieved breakthrough results in the fields of space-time coding, satellite navigation and positioning, information security and data storage technology, 7 provincial and ministerial level awards. Published more than 810 papers, including 223 high-level journal papers(87 IEEE Trans and other foreign countries journal, 136 domestic level periodicals). 71 SCI included papers, 48 ESI papers, ESI is cited 239 times totally, and some of the results are cited in wikipedia and professional books. The publication number of monographs (translated) is 9, authorized 54 invention patents. Bear 21 defense research, won 3 national defense scientific research awards, part of results have been used for mass production of military equipments.

(3) Research of Discipline at Forward Position

In the fields of signal processing, researches are mainly related to signal detection and intelligent identification, multimedia signal processing, data mining and analysis, and intelligent anti-interference technology, and proposed many new methods, such as, space-time coding, spectrum sensing based on goodness of fit and dynamic spectrum allocation based on evolution algorithm, etc., and develop satellite navigation and positioning(CAPS) pseudo-satellite station on-board systems, a military control systems, digital intermediate frequency module, won 2 second provincial and ministerial-level science and technology prizes. Published research achievements on the journal of IEEE Trans, etc, published translated monographs, such as “some novel methods of modern signal processing”, “cognitive radio technology (second edition)”, etc.

In the fields of wireless communication, research mainly involving information transmission and coding theory, multi-antenna systems and large-scale antenna technology, anti-interference and secure wireless communication technology, mobile communication network positioning technology, seamless joint of the Beidou positioning system, etc. Make breakthrough in the theory and algorithm of code modulation and MIMO; The terminal equipments of the network communications system, which is funded by “The Tenth Five-Year Plan” and “The Eleventh Five-Year Plan”, was demonstrated successfully and has been approved by military; Won 1 first provincial ministerial-level science and technology prize and 2 second national defense science and technology prizes, and have published some monographs, such as “space-time coding technique for multi-antenna system”, “intelligent transportation technology new progress”.

In the fields of optical communication, research involving optical communication technology, key technology of the next-generation optical access network’s smooth upgrade of existing network system, the key technologies for 5G of optical and wireless integration access network systems, and have established dispersion, nonlinear optical switch model, adopt new materials, new technology, research and develop the ultra-short pulses and mid-infrared band laser light source and dual-frequency laser of photon-generated millimeter waves and photon-generated THz waves, won 1 second provincial and ministerial level Science and Technology prize. High-level papers have published in Optics Communications and other journals, have published monographs such as “non-linear optical communication system technology and application”.

In the fields of information security, mainly related to the research and development of high performance identity authentication system, massive data encryption technology, network attack and defense technology, and research and development of cryptographic chip for data security processing. Cryptographic key generation from fingerprint feature and the new cipher system combining algebra and cryptography has been proposed, the chip of SSD with SATA interface has been designed. The key technique has been overcome in the field of electronic hard disk and solid state storage. The solid state storage technology is applied in the military field and the standardization. One technical invention won the first prize in the provincial invention competition, and published monographs such as “safe communication theory”.

3. DISCIPLINARY AREAS

Subject insists the principle of strengthening features, convergence advantages, major breakthroughs and coordinated development. The discipline has implemented four disciplinary research directions, including signal and information processing, wireless communication theory and technology, optical communication and optical network, information security.

4. OBJECTIVES OF TALENTS CULTIVATION

To cultivate professionals of information and communication engineering, to master basic theoretical knowledge of information and communication engineering, be familiar with the development situations of the research areas and advanced research methods, to get the ability to engage in research, design, development, manufacturing and operation of all fields in information and communication engineering.

5. INFLUENCES OF DISCIPLINE AT DOMESTIC AND OVERSEAS

The discipline began to recruit postgraduates in 1985, the discipline of Communication and Information System was rated as key discipline of MII(Ministry of Information Industry) in 2000,. The discipline of Signal and Information Processing was rated as key discipline of Zhejiang province in 2003. In 2005, the discipline of Communication and Information System and Signal and Information Processing were rated as key disciplines of Zhejiang province at the same time. The first-level discipline of Information and Communication Engineering was rated as key discipline of provincial universities in Zhejiang during the “The Twelfth Five-Year Plan” period in 2012 and was accredited as provincial top priority discipline in 2015. The discipline scored 68 in the Academic Degrees and Graduate Education Development Center in the third round of disciplinary assessment, ranking 41; In the “Chinese Science Evaluation Research Center” (Junping Qiu) discipline 2013, 2014, 2015 annual ranking were 28.99%, 27.22%, 25.3% respectively.
